Hello everyone! Just wanted to make a short post to say Happy Mother's Day to all our Canadian and American readers. While doing some research I found it interesting that people everywhere celebrate Mother's Day very differently. For one thing, it is not just celebrated in May, but all throughout the year depending on your location - many eastern European countries celebrate in early March, while some African nations have their Mother's Day in the summertime. Additionally, the actual holiday varies from country to country, as does the way it is celebrated. Some countries call it "Family Day" while others elect to celebrate International Women's Day instead of Mother's Day. Many European countries are similar in their celebrations, where children will make gifts in school for their mothers. Many countries also broadcast special television programs on Mother's Day.
This cake from Germany shows one of the country's popular traditions.
In almost every country, Mother's Day is one of the biggest days of the year for florists. Interestingly enough, it is also the third most popular day of the year for churchgoers, only behind Christmas and Easter. And, it's obvious that a lot of people call their moms on this day - in the United States it's the biggest holiday for long-distance calling!
Regardless of how you celebrate, we all hope that you have a great day and find time to do something special and appreciate your mom today! Have a lovely week everyone!
